Pringle Of Scotland

Pringle of Scotland has launched their Spring/Summer 2010 campaign with this short film featuring Tilda Swinton. Directed by Ryan McGinley, "[He] photographed and filmed Swinton in iconic Scottish locations for the campaign, which demonstrates the class and edge of both photographer and actress, perfectly in synch with the brand’s latest direction. This collaboration is the first in a series of creative projects planned for the brand with the aim of promoting Scotland’s renewed cultural surge."

For some time now, we’ve seen a revival of all things early 80’s pop culture. As the youth of that era take reign within creative positions, their idealism and inspiration from that era is re-positioned in today’s creative consciousness. After the success of the JCDC Lego collection, the inspiration just keeps extending to different categories and new styles; some wearable, some great for catwalk, as shown below.
JCDC has taken Lego to the high fashion catwalk again, however this time his references are as varied as African tribal accessories (complete with Mohawk style helmets), holidaying in the south of France (albeit with a Lego print twist) and iconic 80’s designer, Moschino’s spliced pocket jacket.
If you prefer your ‘pop culture references’ to be slightly more wearable, then the JCDC Lego watch might be more up your alley. Watches have seen a remarkable lift in design led innovation, incorporating a fashionable or pop culture element and often employing leading designers of today to interpret their design aesthetic for the category. Fashion: Laura Mackness

Laura Mackness graduated from the Central Saint Martins MA Fashion course in February earlier this year, and has since received critical acclaim for her striking 26-piece collection showcased during London Fashion Week. A refreshing juxtaposition of minimalism and humour the collection promotes a streamline silhouette, a rigourous colour palette punctuated by unexpected details. A blazer jacket with loose lapels, structured tunic tops and a trompe l’oeil fur-print coat are complimented by Mackness’ flocked ‘eyelash’ necklace and cone-shaped hats.

Gig: Alternative Fashion Week

FASHION: It’s night two of Alternative Fashion Week, and the fun just keeps on strutting. Caitlin Cronenberg unveils some beautiful photography, and the Deadly Nightshades debut their new line of sustainable bike-friendly street clothes before heading over to the great Mill Street Pub for sustainable brew (Coffee Porter, anyone? There's a $5 cover, but it includes a first beer). Music, performances, and more photography add to the experience of the Earth Day "Planet" theme. Distillery District, Fermenting Cellar, and Mill Street Brewery (55 Mill Street) Toronto, 6 p.m.–1:30 a.m., $25.

Kitsune's releasing their seventh compilation entitled "7". Featuring break through artists that the cool kids will know about it. New Favorite Store: Boudoir, Vancouver

I love this store for many reasons. For one, their clothes! The casual funk of their garments still manage to be ladylike and tailored, emulating the opening statement on their website: "we’re bringing pretty back". Damn straight. I've also got a love for their bunch of sass when describing their collections: "there’s a good chance the girl you love to hate won’t be wearing the same thing." Up top with the claws out! Snap!

Ten points for braving the cold Vancouver forests to shoot their very own LookBook - an online photo gallery of new stuff for spring 2009. Boudoir's got guts, girlies... whoever takes couture to the mountains is definitely a friend of mine.

I gotta admit, I love Mos Def. There's a little Mos Def shaped hole in my heart that beats everytime I hear Black on Both Sides, even if the album is almost ten years old.
I'm old.
Fear Not of Man is the opening track, and Def weaves in the beats with this beautiful prose:

Oscars, We Salute Thee

Ah, the Oscars. From Tina Fey falling in love with Steve Martin to Sean Penn shaming anti-gay protesters during his acceptance speech and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button [thankfully] not winning much, the 81st Academy Awards was a show not to be missed. The Oscars are back, baby, recession or not. Top marks go to host Hugh Jackman for his dancing skills while performing "The Reader", Gus Van Sant's sneaker + suit combo, and of course, Ben Stiller's hilarious take on Joaquin Phoenix:
