Music: General Elektricks

General Elektriks is the brainchild of HervĂ© ‘RV’ Salters. A French national and a keen vintage keyboard player, Salters was playing keys for his bands and for various artists in Paris (Femi Kuti, M, DJ Mehdi etc…) before he moved to San Francisco in 1999.
He started working on funk collages as he was moving to the US, using his favorite keyboards, a computer and a mic. GE became a musical journal that followed RV through his move to Seattle, then back to the Bay Area, in Berkeley, where he currently resides. There, he hooked up with the Quannum crew (Blackalicious, Lyrics Born, DJ Shadow…) and started sessioning for them. He invited Quannum’s own Lateef The Truthspeaker and Chief Xcel on a few tracks, then completed the 1st GE album, ‘Cliquety Kliqk.’ Hailed by URB as ‘Ennio Morricone for the 21st century,’ the album is a far out mix of vintage funk, hip hop beats, noir riffs, cinematic arrangements, pop melodies and digital twinkle.

What to do with your wall of stank
With the City of Toronto finally reaching an agreement on the four week, 36 day garbage strike, as of next week Torontonians can kick it to the curbside once more.
Unfortunately, rumors are that part of the agreement is for households to only put out one garbage bin at a time, so additional recycling goods and garbage stores that have already become a treasured part of your Stank Family across the last month could still remain a house guest for at least another 3 weeks, yippee!
The question is what to do with your wall of stank...
Lucky for us we have Paris resident and sculpteur du papier extraordinaire JUNIOR JACQUET, who likes to transform left over toilet paper rolls into sculptures of faces:
Perhaps one could create a porch full of angry toilet paper roll faces for when the eventual collection does occur??
Just sayin'...
More on Junior Jacquet here.

Gig: Ndidi Onukwulu

I've got a girl crush on Ndidi Onukwulu. I'm also quite thankful that this is a blog post vs. a radio commentary as I have no idea how to pronounce her name! Trying to pinpoint her style is equally as difficult. Is it Ella Fitzgerald? Is it musical theatre? Does it make you want to get drunk and be in a movie from the 1940's? You decide:
Ndidi Onukwulu will be playing across Ontario during April and in Paris during May. To view tour dates, click here.

Do That Dance.

Here's a look at the new Club Coke bottle design. Club Coke is an exclusive line available only at the best clubs around the world. For the 5th anniversary there was a collaboration on the design between Justice and Ed Banger creative director So Me. All made in aluminium, it was launched in Paris last night with a performance by Justice. The bottle is red during the day and then glows in the dark at night!
