Sweet Read:: The Hogtown Project

The Hogtown Project
is a brand new coffee table book about Toronto from Writer Nadine Dolly and photographer Kristie Macor, childhood buds who wanted to make a homage of the city from a residential perspective.

“Most coffee-table books for Torontonians are made for tourists, and usually have spots in the city that we would never go anymore, like the CN Tower. So we thought we should create one that speaks to Torontonians," says Dolly in an interview with the Toronto Star.

The girls spent 3 years, $20,000, and hours of remarkable memories travelling in and out of 180 Toronto locales.

Hail Dave!

Tattoo's Dave Clarke caused quite the stir as Toronto's Messiah of Traditional Communication during Nuit Blanche on Saturday, October 3rd.

The Clarke sat for 12 hours from sunset to sunrise on a stage outside of Old City Hall. Under a sign saying "Hey Dave!", he had one motive and one motive only: to talk face to face with the people of Toronto.

It didn't take long for Hey Dave! to establish the reputation of being a must-see event. Upon advising the crowds on their lives, answering many questions, taking many photos and shaking many hands, Dave Clarke became the city's go-to guy. Long live Dave the mentor, Dave the pal!

Hey, Dave! Thank you for being awesome.

Hey Dave!

It's Nuit Blanche this weekend in Toronto, and if you're looking for must see exhibits, come say hey to Dave!

Hey Dave!

"Hey!"

Tattoo's very own Dave Clarke will be on the corner of Queen Street West and Bay, by the front steps of Old City Hall. An interactive art exhibit devoted to endorsing more face to face communication, all "Hey Dave!" requires you to do is put down the cell phone, leave the laptop at home, step up on the platform housing our friend and say "Hey Dave!"

Dave will be saying "Hey" from 7PM - 7AM.

Gig: Carnival Cabaret

So I know it's Monday. You're tired / annoyed / want your bed back. Instead of mourning about it not being the weekend, let's plan for next one!

The Reservoir Lounge is hosting Carnival Cabaret on Sunday, March 22, 2009. Proceeds from the event will go to support Project Sugar Dance Company. It's a fundraiser, people, so make sure you bring five dolla bills!

Doors open at 8 PM, and the fun kicks off at 8:30. Random Task Force will be there along with Luke Nicholson [above left]. If you've ever wondered what Cold Play would sound like if they found jazz instruments, Nicholson's band is it.

The evening also includes live dance from Project Sugar and stand up by Chelsea P Manders. Improv troupe The Royal Convicts will also be there.

Yesterday we reported on having Dinner With A Stranger. Now you can get your ole bump n' grind on by dancing with one!

Improv In Toronto is hosting their second annual Subway Dance Party this weekend. Get your steps together for Saturday, February 21 at 3:00 PM. Interested participants can dance for free; all that's required is for you to meet the rest of your Hip Hop posse at the giant horseman statue in the middle of Queen's Park with a subway token, an mp3 player or iPod, and a willingness to dance.

Here's a vid covering last year's event:

Further details about Saturday's fancy dancey can be found here. The beat stops at 5PM, so catch the party train while you still can.

Get In My House

The Interior Design Show starts tomorrow at Exhibition Place. STUDIO JOB will be there on February 6th at 3 PM as guest speakers. The pair are most famous for their Alice-In-Wonderland-esque oversized "Silverware" pieces. Their designs are so good that their website doesn't even contain any of their work. Oh snap! Visit it here.

Other top pics are Canadian duo Castor, made up of Brian Richer and Kei Ng. They'll be taking place in 5X5: 5 DESIGNERS, 5 INSPIRED SPACES with 4 other firms designing living spaces within the exhibition. Joining them are 64th and Queen, Dee Dee Taylor Hannah, Tomas Pearce Interior Design Consulting, Inc. and Earth, Inc.

And just an aesthetic tease - check out what's in Studio North:

Happy Eyes I have, Grasshopper.
