HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR. MARTENS!
Today marks the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martens. To celebrate their 50th Anniversary they asked 10 bands to record their own cover of cult classic tracks that represent the spirit of Dr. Martens over the past five decades. Then they scored 10 directors to make music videos for each of the new tracks. Then they're going to release the videos throughout the year.
If I would have known sooner, I would have my 12 holes on today.

Cover Song: Air "Playground Love"
Here's a cool video of Thomas Mars and Christian Mazzalai from Phoenix covering Air's "Playground Love". Thomas originally did vocals for the song on the Virgin Suicide soundtrack, so it's kind of only a half cover. Right?

Cover: Womanizer
Lily Allen kicks some serious ash. Not only does she have her own music innovations, but she keeps pretty active on the cover scene. For those of you who missed her energetic cover of the Kaiser Chiefs' Oh My God in '07, don't you worry. Listen to it here. But first, have a little listen to Miss Allen taking a spear [oh yes I went there] to Britney's hit Womanizer:
Lily Allen will be coming to Toronto in April 2009. For all the tour dates, click here.
